Scania partners with Brigade to offer vehicle safety package18 March 2015

Scania has partnered with Brigade Electronics to offer truck buyers a choice of optional vehicle safety kits that will enable them to comply with specifications such as FORS (Freight Operator Recognition Scheme), Crossrail, Costain, CLOCS (the Construction Logistics and Cycling Safety scheme) and others.

Both options include devices to eliminate blind spots, with one adding mobile digital recording to the package.

At the heart of the system are Brigade's Sidescan Ultrasonic obstacle detection sensors, alerting the driver when a cyclist or pedestrian is in the blind spot, drawing attention to the relevant mirror.

This is connected to Backchat, a real speech warning alarm to alert the cyclist or pedestrian that the truck is about to manoeuvre. Sidescan and Backchat are activated when the left indicator is selected and this can be set to speeds of less than 20mph.

The safety kits also include side and rear view cameras, with views able to be triggered individually by selecting the left indicator or reverse gear, and Brigade's bbs-tek white noise reversing alarm.

The upgraded option features a mobile digital recording system, with four camera inputs, giving up to 780 hours of recording.

The vehicle safety kits are fitted by technicians at Scania dealerships to any model of truck.
