Scania V8 horsepower rolls out the Lord Mayor’s Show13 November 2012

This weekend's (10 November 2012) Lord Mayor's Show, in London, witnessed three Scania V8 Topline tractor units, loaned by Scania Truck Rental, hauling the floats of the Lord Mayor's own employer, Swedish bank SEB, as well as those of Mizuho Corporate Bank and the Worshipful Company of Cordwainers.

Roger Gifford, the new Lord Mayor of London, is Alderman of Cordwainer, one of the City's 25 historic wards. But in his position as UK head of country for SEB, Gifford has a strong relationship with the British arm of the Swedish Chamber of Commerce.

Hans-Christer Holgersson, managing director of Scania GB, explains that it was Scania's association with the chamber that led to Scania Truck Rental being invited to supply a trio of vehicles for this year's show.

"Given the new Lord Mayor's Swedish connections, we were delighted to receive and accept this invitation," comments Holgersson.

"The Lord Mayor's Show travelled a route lined by an estimated half a million people and was watched by millions more on television. We were naturally thrilled to play such a prominent part in this historic and much-loved event."

The floats hauled typified the international nature of the parade. The SEB float was hauled by an R 500 and carried an Abba tribute band. That was followed soon after by a second Scania V8, an R 560 and its cargo, a troupe of Japanese taiko drummers aboard the float of Mizuho Corporate Bank.

The Cordwainers aboard the third Scania vehicle, also an R 560, represented the cobblers whose name is derived from the Spanish city of Cordoba.
