Schmitz Cargobull makes Chinese connection with Dongfeng 23 November 2012
Trailer manufacturer Schmitz Cargobull has signed a joint-venture deal with Dongfeng Motor Group, one of the three major truck makers in China, to cooperate with semi-trailer production in the Chinese market.
The partners believe that the joint venture will offer "an opportunity for major synergies and further expansion in the growing global transport market by providing customers with a combined solution of towing tuck and innovative semitrailer".
The first-phase of construction of a manufacturing facility is scheduled to take place in Wuhan, with an annual capacity of up to 40,000 semitrailers.
The 40,000m2 production site will form a major part of the investment, which is estimated to be around €100 million over the next five years.
"Together with our partner, Dongfeng, Schmitz Cargobull will continue its globalisation strategy in the Chinese market," states Ulrich Schümer, CEO of Schmitz Cargobull.
