Schmitz Cargobull reveals new trailer floor to boost payload and deliver quiet operation15 June 2015

Schmitz Cargobull has introduced a new multi-function floor, which promises to boost payload and deliver quieter operation, thanks to a new welding process.

Called the MF6, the multi-function floor is now incorporated as standard on all Schmitz S.KO Cool refrigerated trailers.

Manufactured from full-length extruded aluminium planks, the MF6 can be more effectively heat-treated to give it a harder, more durable finish – and it is 5% lighter than traditional aluminium flooring.

The planks are welded on the underside using a new friction welding process, called stir welding. Developed in the UK, this process uses a lip on the edge of the parent extrusion, eliminating weld defects, says Schmitz.

The MF6 also gives better grip for palletised goods and roll cages, as it has TÜV-certified longitudinal grooves with cross-wise knurling. Six load securing profiles formed into the floor make it easy to fit vertical locking bars, and provide increased security with flush-mounted locking profiles for the bars in the floor and roof.

Additionally, when water jets are used for rinse-down, the floor profile is structured so that waste water moves to the rear of the trailer via the grooving, rather than splashing up on the internal walls. The company says this feature makes it possible to deep clean the full floor area in less than 10 minutes.

The floor also exceeds the PIEK noise requirements, with a noise level of less than 60db during loading and unloading, making it suitable for late night operations in residential areas.
