Schmitz Cargobull unveils fixed-roof curtainsider at TCS&D 19 September 2013

The wraps were taken off Schmitz Cargobull's latest semi-trailer yesterday (18 September 2013) at the TCS&D temperature-controlled transport show in Peterborough.

The trailer specialist is now launching a line-up of aluminium, fixed-roof curtainsider semi-trailers, with the first example rolling off the production line just in time for the show.

Key features include an aluminium front bulkhead with galvanised steel front and rear corner posts – a specification favoured by domestic operators as it allows free side loading. It also includes wraparound curtains and a front ratchet tensioner.

The launch trailer is 13.6m-long and has been fitted with Schmitz Cargobull's own Rotos axles (assembled in Altenberge and currently on 70% of new Schmitz Cargobull trailers) and rides on 385/65 R 22.5 tyres.

It also has full-height aluminium, mono hinged double doors and two roof-mounted load restraint tracks, with 13 pairs of load restraint straps.

"We have engineered this new fixed-roof curtainsider specifically for the UK and Irish markets," states Paul Avery, managing director of Schmitz Cargobull UK.

"It allows us to compete head-to-head against domestic trailer manufacturers and be competitive on price," he adds.

Schmitz Cargobull expects the majority of domestic fleets to specify two side posts per side without rigging boards. However, the company emphasises that it also offers the option of three side posts per side with rigging boards, providing full EN 12642 XL certification.
