Schmitz Cargobull unveils UK plant relocation plans 19 May 2011

Trailer manufacturer and bodybuilder Schmitz Cargobull (UK) is to relocate its head office and central parts facility to Warrington.

The move, taking place in the summer, is part of another reorganisation of the company's UK operations.

Warrington is already home to Schmitz Cargobull's used trailer sales site, which features a three-bay workshop, parts warehouse and on-site parking for more than 80 trailers.

The 2.5-acre site offers spare office space to accommodate the head office team, while the existing parts warehouse can be serve as the company's primary UK parts store.

Commenting on the planned relocation, Schmitz Cargobull managing director Paul Avery says: "Warrington is an ideal location. It's home to a large and well-established Schmitz Cargobull operation already, plus offers the capacity to comfortably accommodate our head office and parts teams."

The decision to relocate follows mothballing of the firm's Harelaw-based trailer manufacturing operation in July 2010. With sufficient capacity remaining across the group's seven other manufacturing facilities in mainland Europe, transferring the head office and parts store will enable the 44,000m2 Harelaw site to be sold.
