Scottish haulier opens doors to UK’s first Euro 6 Volvo FM31 January 2014

Scottish logistics firm The Malcolm Group has taken delivery of the UK's first Euro 6 Volvo FM tractor unit, one of 31 the company has now ordered for delivery during 2014.

The Linwood, Renfrewshire-based business initially planned to test one Euro 6 FM, but increased the order after the "solid performance" of its latest 11-litre Euro 5 FM units which, it says, are outperforming other vehicles in its fleet on fuel efficiency.

"I am confident in Volvo's approach to Euro 6 and I expect the newcomers to at least equal, if not exceed the performance of our current FM trucks," says group chief executive Andrew Malcolm.

Supplied by Volvo Truck and Bus Centre North & Scotland, the 6x2 tractor unit is fitted with a Globetrotter cab and a D11K engine producing 450bhp.

The Malcolm Group has also been trialling an FH tractor unit fitted with a Euro 6 D13C engine rated at 460bhp. This vehicle is equipped with a Globetrotter XL cab, I-Shift gearbox and the same 3.9m wheelbase as the new FM. It has since placed an order for nine more of the FH models.
