SDC is first in with longer semi-trailer approval 27 January 2012

SDC Trailers has become the first UK trailer manufacturer to be granted approval for its longer semi-trailers.

The company is also the first in the country to have all five of its new models pass the strict VCA tests.

After two days of testing last week, the complete range of SDC high volume trailers was approved by VCA as meeting the requirements of the physical turning circle provision.

UK hauliers that have been allocated licences to take part in the trial can now get their hands on some of the first longer trailers from SDC, which currently has 70 in production.

"SDC has been working on this project for over three years and we have been testing prototypes for 18 months," reveals SDC managing director Mark Cuskeran.

"Our development team has been working tirelessly to keep us ahead of the game and help hauliers realise the environmental and business benefits that the trailers will bring," he adds.

Under the conditions of the DfT's 10-year trial of longer trailers, all specifications must adhere to the current turning circle requirements to ensure manoeuvrability and safety on the UK road network.
