Secured Mail sorted with £160,000 saving with Webfleet16 June 2017

Postal and retail logistics business Secured Mail is reporting savings of £160,000, after implementing a driver behaviour programme underpinned by Webfleet telematics, from TomTom.

The Warrington-based operator is using Webfleet to to analyse driver performance, using the data to target improvements.

To date, this has resulted in an annual saving of £130,000 on fuel, thanks to an 8% uplift in mpg, and a 15% decrease in incidences of unsafe driving, with £30,000 saved on maintenance each year for the 75-strong truck fleet.

“We are covering more miles than ever before, but have managed to achieve savings on fuel and maintenance by using driver performance data to help our employees improve through direct feedback, support and targeted training,” confirms James Wilkins, operations and IT director at Secured Mail.

The system includes OptiDrive 360, which scores drivers on a range of KPIs, including speeding, driving events and idling.

Secured Mail uses the scores to create league tables and to target training. Drivers have weekly briefings with RoSPA-accredited assessors, using data and vehicle footage, to discuss performance and highlight methods of improvement.

“Drivers love the competitive aspect and the use of league tables has helped to provide a stronger incentive for improvement,” adds Wilkins. “But it is also important to work with the drivers to ensure they get all the help and support they need to improve scores.”
