Silver lining for haulier’s Volvo FH tractor25 November 2013

Paisley-based MP Burke Transport has taken delivery of a new Volvo FH 6x2 tractor unit to celebrate 25 years in business.

The FH-500 tractor unit has silver anniversary lettering and comes with a Globetrotter cab, I-Shift automated gearbox, Alcoa Dura Bright alloy wheels and Michelin tyres, which the company specifies on all new Volvo trucks.

The 500bhp unit joins MP Burke's fleet of eight vehicles, most of which are Volvos.

The firm's first truck in 1988 was a second-hand Volvo F88-290 model and the reliability of this vehicle paved the way for more Volvo models to follow. The company moved to Volvo's FH range after its launch in 1994 and has operated several versions, ranging from 420 to 520bhp, since then.

"Despite being a relatively small-sized fleet operator, I feel that Volvo Trucks are very fair with us," says managing director Martin Burke. "The whole team at Volvo Truck and Bus Centre North & Scotland in Cardonald, Glasgow have a good understanding of our business," he adds.
