SmartWitness to launch TfL-compliant vision system for HGVs18 February 2020

Telematics provider SmartWitness has announced that it will be unveiling a new multi-camera system for HGVs at the Commercial Vehicle Show (NEC, Birmingham; 28-30 April).

The SmartWitness Direct Vision Standard (DVS) Safe System is recommended by Transport for London (TfL) and backed by FORS and FTA, and enables operators to comply with the Direct Vision Standard when it comes into force in London, in October.

The SmartWitness system features a 4G/LTE multi-camera recorder (SmartWitness CP4S), with an updated 4G LTE forward-facing HD camera, 120° HD side-view cameras, 150° rear-view camera, and a 7in dash-mounted LCD monitor to give a live view around the vehicle.

It also includes proximity sensors on the nearside to alert the driver to the presence of other road users and sounds audible alerts to the road users when the vehicle is turning left. The SmartWitness DVS System comes in a four-channel (CP4S) or eight-channel version (CRXS).

Paul Singh, managing director of SmartWitness, says: “New compliance legislation is often just another extra headache and cost for fleet managers who are already stretched. That’s why SmartWitness have come up with a simple plug and play solution that offers long-term safety compliance.

“Our Safe System ticks all the boxes, it’s competitively priced, works with all existing telematics hardware and providers, is quick to install and is approved by TfL’s partners FORS and FTA.”
