Smith Electric Vehicles to form joint venture in Taiwan 29 August 2013

All-electric, medium-duty commercial vehicles manufacturer Smith Electric Vehicles has signed a letter of intent to form a joint venture with Taiwanese CV manufacturer Taikang Technology Corporation.

The licensing agreement will cover the assembly and distribution of Smith Electric's vehicles in Taiwan.

Taikang intends to take 5,000 Smith Electric vehicles in the first three years of production, and is talking about transforming a "significant portion of the country's municipal garbage truck fleet".

The initial trucks will be Newton and Edison vehicles configured for refuse pick-up and transport.
