Smiths Bletchington takes preferred MAN tippers 26 June 2013

Smiths Bletchington has taken delivery of three MAN vehicles for tipper operations.

Its TGS 35.400 8x4, TGS 26.360 6x4 and TGS 24.400 6x2 mid-lift tractor unit are now in service supplying sand and aggregates to the building trade.

The sand, gravel and aggregates supplier already has six MAN trucks in its fleet of 29.

Transport manager Paul Needle says MAN is now the firm's preferred supplier of 8x4 chassis and MAN will begin to feature more prominently in its fleet.

"The MAN 8x4's greatest asset is its build quality," comments workshop manager Tim Norridge. "It just looks like it's up to the job."

And he adds: "The straight beam front axles provide ample clearance height and, coupled with the light-weight Charlton body, we're seeing an excellent 19.4-tonne payload. Driver feedback is also very positive."

Smiths says safety is a big part of its business, and has fitted several devices to its trucks for the benefit of its drivers, other road users and pedestrians.

The bodywork, for example, has been fitted with guard rails and side scan cameras. External audible warning alarms for reverse and left turning and close proximity cameras have also been fitted.
