Southdown Buses expands fleet with Scania-ADL double-deckers27 April 2018

Southdown Buses has taken delivery of two new buses based on the Scania N 250 UD, after trialling a demonstrator last year.

The Surrey-based operator’s new additions are equipped with Alexander Dennis E400 MMC double-deck bodies, and powered by Scania’s 247bhp, 9.3-litre, Euro VI DC09 engine driving through ZF EcoLife six-speed automatic gearboxes.

“Based on the performance of our current Scania Euro V ADL E400 classic buses, the decision to invest in new Scania buses was an easy move for Southdown,” says Steve Wallis, managing director.

“Having tried and tested the Scania N 250 UD demonstrator last year we know the chassis handles well and performs superbly in terms of fuel economy, reliability and ease of maintenance, and is popular with our drivers, engineers and passengers alike. Combined with ADL’s E400 MMC body it is adaptable for every road condition but light enough to make a difference – and tough enough to deal with all wear and tear.”

The bodywork fitted to both vehicles is 10.9m overall length Alexander Dennis E400 MMC Low Height, with a seating capacity of 78. They have Lazzerini Pratico low back seats and have USB charging points.
