Speedy Services shows off high-spec DAF/Hiab trucks 28 June 2013

Plant equipment rental specialist Speedy Services showed one of 24 specially designed four-axle delivery trucks that it has just put into service at yesterday's (27 June 2013) Vertikal Days lifting equipment exhibition at Haydock Park Racecourse.

The Haydock-based firm has fitted two types of Hiab crane to its 32 tonne trucks, which are based on the DAF CF85 FAX rear-steer model with a beaver-tail plant body.

Hiab XS422EP-4 Hi-Duo cranes have been fitted to 21 of the trucks, while the other three have the larger XS622EP-5 HiPro model. All are based on Hikab's E-link system, comprising an inner and an outer boom link to increase lifting capacity in high boom positions, especially when close to the column.

The new DAF trucks will run with drawbar units that have a cross-decking capability between the drawing unit and the trailer. Speedy says the long 13.2 and 14.7 metres reach (for the -4 and -5 respectively) and capacity of the Hiab cranes will assist in fast loading and unloading, so increasing the productivity of Speedy Services delivery and collection operations.

The DAF trucks also feature safety systems mandated for vehicles working on the London Crossrail Project, currently the UK's largest civil engineering project.

Speedy says that the ability to use remote crane control, through the XSDrive and CombiDrive remote control units, enables the operator to position himself in the best location to oversee the lifting operation.
