Stagecoach aims to pick up 4% fuel saving with fleet management solution24 April 2014

Transport operator Stagecoach has extended its fleet management solution to almost 1,200 London buses in a bid to cut fuel consumption by 4%.

Its deployment of GreenRoad means that Stagecoach now uses the system to manage more than 8,800 vehicles across the UK.

GreenRoad, says the operator, will help it to save on fuel and carbon emissions, as well as improving passenger comfort and safety through better driving behaviour.

To encourage London bus drivers to reach its 4% fuel reduction target, Stagecoach's EcoDriver scheme gives them the chance to earn points that are converted into financial benefits from a potential £225,000 annual bonus pot.

A trial at the Bow depot demonstrated to drivers, depot managers and union leaders how it can improve driving behaviour and fleet efficiency, according to Mark Threapleton, managing director of Stagecoach London UK Bus.

"Installing this new system on all 1,200 of our buses will help limit the impact of our operations on the environment, while helping our drivers to drive more safely," says Threapleton.

Nationally, Stagecoach drivers have already reduced their risk levels by 60% -- the company's drivers are now among the safest in the world, with almost 14% having achieved Fleet Elite status. The industry average is 5%.
