Stobart and Jenkinson place joint order for 1,500 Scania Euro 6 trucks13 January 2014

Logistics operators Eddie Stobart and AW Jenkinson have placed a joint order with Scania (Great Britain) for 1,500 Euro 6 trucks, the truck maker's largest order to date.

The two operators have had a joint procurement agreement in place for four years: this is the third order they have placed together. Vehicles will be ordered from Scania over the next two years, covering a variety of specifications.

An initial order for 150 chassis has been placed for a mix of 410bhp G-series 4x2 models with sleeper cabs for the Eddie Stobart fleet, 450bhp R-series 6x2 tractor units with Highline cabs for AW Jenkinson, and 450bhp R-series sleeper-cabbed 8x2 6 drawbar rigids for specialist operations with Stobart Rail.

Commenting on the agreement, Stobart Group chief operating officer William Stobart says: "Our decision to continue taking Scania vehicles is based on their proven record within the Eddie Stobart and AW Jenkinson fleets so far, so we saw no reason but to continue this relationship as we enter into the Euro 6 production, with the new deal giving us a lot of flexibility going forward."

The agreement was sealed with a visit by William Stobart to Scania's Swedish headquarters last week (9 January).
