Stop the engine, start fuel saving with Bosch 11 February 2014

Bosch has launched a new stop-start function, which it says can be used with any combustion or hybrid engine to deliver fuel savings of 10%.

The company has carried out tests showing combustion engines run needlessly for around 30% of the time. Its existing stop-start systems – fitted to many vehicles – only cut out the engine when the vehicle is stationary.

Now, says the company, the next-generation technology can cut out the engine when the vehicle is coasting, for example towards a red light or on a gentle decline. The engine is restarted as soon as the driver touches the accelerator.
