Stralis X-Way delivers new dimension for Nixon Hire tanker fleet05 November 2018

Plant and accommodation unit provider Nixon Hire has added three Stralis X-Way tankers to its fleet, citing payload and strong dealer support as reasons for its decision.

Supplied by dealer North East Truck & Van, the operator’s new additions are 26-tonne Stralis X-Way 6x4 rigids and are said to be among the first of their type in the UK.

The vehicles join three other IVECO rigid tankers from the Trakker range, and are supplying clean water to customers in a range of sectors, including agriculture, construction and highways.

Graham Wood, group logistics manager at Nixon Hire, says reliability was not in question as the operator has used IVECO trucks for years. But, he adds: “The Stralis X-Way adds another dimension to our fleet, giving us a bigger payload and even better performance for our long-distance work.”

Supplied with the manufacturer’s Elements R&M package, the vehicles will be based at different depots so will be maintained by the nearest dealership.

“It makes such a difference to our operations if we can drop a truck off with a dealer at the end of the day and have it back first thing next morning. The aftersales support we get from IVECO is excellent,” says Wood.

The trucks are powered by the 8.7-litre Cursor 9 diesel engine, delivering up to 355bhp and 1,650Nm of torque.

They also feature IVECO’s patented Hi-SCR emissions technology, which uses passive regeneration of the diesel particulate filter.

Nixon Hire has chosen the ON+ version of the Stralis X-Way, which offers on-road homologation but with higher approach angles and ground clearance, plus improved bumper protection. Each has a sleeper cab and is equipped with 360° cameras.

Expected to remain in service for up to seven years, each vehicle will clock up 50,000 miles a year.
