Surefreight shaves £300,000 off fleet costs with TomTom Webfleet 01 June 2016

Logistics operator Surefreight says it has made annual savings of £300,000 since using Webfleet from TomTom Telematics to help transform driver performance.

Maureen McSwiggan, general manager at Surefreight says that figure derives from a 6% improvement in mpg combined with reduced insurance claims across the firm’s 200-strong truck fleet based in Newry, Heysham and Cardiff.

She explains that each driver is scored on the usual criteria – including idling, speeding, harsh steering and braking, and mpg performance – with league tables for all to see.

As a result, idling has reduced by almost 60%, while harsh steering and braking have been cut by 48%.

Also, by integrating Webfleet with on-board security cameras, Surefreight has been able to reduce insurance claims by proving their drivers are not at fault in 90% of accidents.

“We have also been able to reinforce our commitment to driver safety by putting measures in place to safeguard employees from external factors and provide them with the tools needed to improve their own performance,” states McSwiggan,

And she adds that Surefreight has also used the Tachograph Manager functionality in Webfleet to help improve compliance with working time regulations.
