Telematics prove the best ingredient for Nagel-Group06 December 2019

Food logistics operator Nagel-Group is reporting numerous benefits after implementing the idem telematics solution across its 7,000-strong European fleet.

Arthur Ebel (pictured), Nagel-Group’s fleet management supervisor, says the operator’s telematics requirements are “very complex”, adding: “Idem telematics completely won us over with its service portfolio and was only one of two manufacturers on the market that was able to meet our specifications.”

The system, he adds, has proved to be “uncompromisingly reliable” in its ability to offer compliance and fleet management information.

The telematics system monitors vehicle and temperature data, including from the doors, tank levels and refrigeration unit. Automatic alarms provided added security benefits. “Moreover, the operating hours and consumption of the refrigerators are continuously monitored and aligned using an algorithm,” says Ebel. “This way, we quickly notice when consumption is conspicuously high and can check if the settings are incorrect, or if there are errors in terms of handling by the driver.”

The system’s ability to integrate with other third party systems is also beneficial, he says. Nagel-Group uses trailer pooling across its sites and most of its own trailers have idem telematics, both in owned and rented units. Trailers from Krone and Schmitz Cargobull have their own telematics solutions built in, but these can be integrated into the open idem system.

Nagel-Group is working with idem telematics on further system developments: “We always feel that we are understood and listened to as a customer,” says Ebel. “The solutions from idem telematics afford us many valuable advantages.”
