The Co-op cashes in on fleet efficiency with Microlise upgrade20 January 2016

Leading retail chain The Co-operative is deploying a new telematics and transport management solution from Microlise to support its plan to open 120 new shops this year.

The deal covers 1,344 HGVs and extends the nine-year partnership between the two companies.

The upgrade includes: Microlise Fleet Performance, which encourages drivers to adopt a fuel-efficient driving style; Journey Management, which enables managers to identify and debrief drivers who have failed to adhere to routes and schedules; and Electronic Proof of Delivery (EPOD), to manage delivery and collection processes electronically.

The Fleet Performance product was trialled at selected depots – the decision was made to roll out across the fleet after it resulted in improved safety as well as fuel savings and lower CO2 emissions.

“We needed a technology refresh and had a clear objective to realise further reductions on our environmental footprint by reducing fuel consumption yet further,” says Jon Paul Brown, national transport manager at The Co-operative Group.

“The trial we carried out proved that the Microlise upgrade was the right way to go without disrupting our business.”

The Co-op’s Microlise solution is integrated with Paragon routing and scheduling and with Manhattan warehouse management software to ensure vehicle routes are optimised; the Proof of Delivery application has the trip and manifest information available to the driver.
