Third seat seals deal for GB Liners’ MAN 18-tonners 24 November 2015

International removals firm GB Liners has added four TGM 18.250 rigids to its 70-strong fleet, which already includes 12 MAN vehicles – citing the standard third seat in the cab as among key reasons for the choice.

Rob Bartup, managing director of the Hereford-based company, says the three-man cab design is a particular benefit to his business because it means the removals crew can travel together in one vehicle.

“It is unusual for an 18-tonner to have three seats, but the TGMs do as standard and that is really useful for us,” states Bartup.

And he adds: “We have had the two-bunk sleeper pods installed and, with the sleeper cab, that means accommodation for three as well. That is useful when we are on European trips.”

GB Liners went for the 247bhp 6.9 litre engines capable of delivering 1,000Nm of torque and mated tothe 12-speed Tipmatic AMT (automated manual transmission).

“The whole package, the spec of the vehicles and the finance arrangements made it an attractive deal for us to go with MAN again,” says Bartup, explaining that the vehicles were acquired through MAN Finance.

The trucks are expected to cover 500,000km over their lifetime. Two will be based at GB Liners’ Brighton depot, working in and out of Switzerland.

Meanwhile, the third is destined for Hereford and the fourth moves to Scotland – both operating throughout Europe.
