Three new FTA Gist engineer apprentices start work 23 November 2015

The first three FTA Gist engineer apprentices have now begun their apprenticeship programme – starting at Gist depots around the country before spending time on-site with the FTA (Freight Transport Association) engineering team.

Lewis Wilcox will be based at Gist’s Barnsley depot; Jack Franklin at Thatcham; and James Halsey at Gist Spalding.

As part of the programme, the apprentices will work with the FTA’s Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS) engineers to develop the skills and knowledge they need to become FTA engineers of the future.

“Their four years of learning offers [these FTA Gist engineer apprentices] the combined opportunity of working with Gist in their depots in a professional environment and learning from our own team of engineers enabling them to develop the knowledge and skills to become FTA engineers of the future,” comments FTA director of operations June Powell (pictured).

“Through this fantastic apprenticeship scheme, FTA is able to give something back to the industry, and believes that this scheme will help encourage other young people to enter a career in logistics,” she adds.

The FTA Gist apprentice programme offers would-be engineers the opportunities and experience they need to start careers in logistics without going to university.
