Top prize for heavy truck transmission21 November 2013

Commercial vehicle transmission maker ZF Friedrichshafen has picked up a sustainability award for TraXon, its modular transmission system for heavy trucks.

The system beat off competition to win the commercial vehicle component category at the European Transport Awards for Sustainability 2014.

An independent jury assessed the contenders on three criteria: economy, environment and social responsibility. TraXon received top marks for all three.

At the core of the automatic ZF-TraXon transmission system is a compact basic transmission, designed for torques up to 3,500Nm. It is modular, delivering more flexibility: the basic transmission can be combined with a dry clutch, or with other starting elements, such as a dual-clutch module or a hybrid module with 120kW. Both technologies will be available for the first time in the heavy commercial vehicle segment.

TraXon features the PreVision GPS shift strategy. By using GPS data and digital map material, the control unit anticipates gear change requirements in relation to the topography, so saving fuel.
