Top transport lawyer on board with IRTE02 June 2014

A leading transport lawyer has joined the governing body of the Society of Operations Engineers (SOE), the umbrella organisation of the Institute of Road Transport Engineers (IRTE).

Ian Jones is a director of Backhouse Jones, a firm of solicitors which has taken the lead in road transport regulatory work and has the biggest market share in this field.

Jones specialised in representing PCV and HGV operators early in his legal career, before co-founding Backhouse Jones in 2000.

"The bar of legal compliance within the transport industry is being increasingly raised by the traffic commissioners, and IRTE plays a critical role in educating and training industry professionals on their increasing responsibilities and requirements," says Jones (pictured).

"I firmly believe that prevention is better than cure and want to assist IRTE and SOE in educating the industry on safe and compliant operations."

Jones was co-opted on to SOE's trustee board in March.
