London operator Tower Transit has taken delivery of 51 new B5LH double-deck hybrid Volvo buses, with MCV Evoseti bodywork.

The Euro 6 vehicles are built to TfL specification, have a passenger capacity of up to 68 seated and 25 standing, and are said to reduce fuel and carbon emissions by up to 39%.

Each is equipped with a Volvo D5K 240 four-cylinder, 5.1 litre engine delivering 240bhp at 2,200 rpm, with a maximum torque of918Nm between 1,200 and 1,600 rpm.

The parallel hybrid system features a 600V battery and the driveline uses stop-start technology.

“These new hybrid buses are part of our continued effort to lower the emissions of our fleet,” says Satnam Cheema, group engineering director for Tower Transit.

“They will be operating daily on some of London’s busiest routes and we’re looking forward to seeing positive results in terms of reliability, a reduction in vehicle emissions and an increase in fuel efficiency.”
