Toyota launches Forklift Challenge mobile app 08 December 2011

Toyota Material Handling has thrown down the gauntlet to managers, technicians and forklift drivers, with its mobile game Forklift Challenge.

Thought to be the first mobile application in the material handling industry, the game has been created to raise awareness of driving issues, voiding damage and maintaining safety – and the Toyota System of Active Stability (SAS).

The game allows players to climb into the driver's seat and experience typical work scenarios and the costs incurred by unsafe practices. Using SAS features reduces the risk of accidents, optimises productivity and awards points.

Tony Wallis, operations director at Toyota Material Handling UK, explains that on each lap, there are several locations where players have to safely pick up and drop cargo. Get it wrong and drivers might incur additional damage costs, or even be forced to take a penalty lap and lose productivity.

"It is more than just a game," he says. 'Forklift Challenge' has been created to illustrate the benefits customers get from Toyota SAS in terms of safety and cost control."

And he adds: "When it comes to acquiring new skills, there is no substitute for learning by doing. Forklift Challenge is an excellent way to visualise and experience what SAS can do."

The Forklift Challenge is now available online for PC and MAC via http://www.toyota-forklifts.eu. The mobile version of the game is available free via iTunes for iPad, iPad 2, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4. It is also available on the Android Market and requires Android 2.1.
