Traffic Commissioner and VOSA to keynote at IRTE 2012 conference 15 May 2012

Beverley Bell, acting senior traffic commissioner, and Alistair Peoples, chief executive of VOSA, will provide the keynotes at this year's major IRTE Conference, at the Heritage Motor Centre, Gaydon on 13 September 2012.

Other lead speakers include Andrew Nicol, technical specialist for heavy-duty engines at world-renowned Ricardo, and Professor David Cebon, research director at the world-renowned Cambridge Vehicle Dynamics Consortium.

The IRTE conference comes at a time when the transport industry is under huge pressure to deliver not only cost savings, but also improvements in efficiency, vehicle uptime and customer service, as well as regulatory compliance.

That's why the conference – which this year runs in association with Transport Engineer magazine – will focus squarely on new methods and technologies delivering serious improvements on all of these fronts.

Ricardo's Nicol will cover some of the key aspects of engine developers' Euro 6 designs, in light of the impending emissions legislation and current launches of new Euro 6 compliant heavy-duty diesel truck engines.

Nicol will lead the panel of experts covering not only the engineering issues driving some of the new designs, but also the mainstream solutions – and the cost, weight, fuel consumption and maintenance implications that mater to fleet and workshop managers alike.

CVDC's Cebon will use the Department for Transport's 10-year longer trailers trial to review relevant technologies, including systems for rear-steer, suspension/axle lifting and electronic braking and stability assistance.

Delegates, he says, will hear about latest developments and trials with electronic and mechanical vehicle systems set to significantly improve everything from safety to manoeuvrability – with some surprising cost saving potential.

Other subjects to be addressed at this packed conference include: multi-fuel and gas engine technologies; aerodynamics and bodybuilding advances that make a difference; improvements in systems and equipment for tyre management and cost saving; and the power of proven telematics in commercial trucking fleets.
