Trailer parking system prevents accidental brake release02 October 2012

Haldex used the recent Hannover IAA commercial vehicle exhibition to introduce an update to its trailer parking brake range – in the form of the TEM Safe Parking Single system.

The new version is claimed to offer even greater safety than its predecessors (the award-winning Trailer Control Module+ Safe Parking (TrCM+) and the Trailer Emergency Module (TEM)) and has only one, instead of the earlier two, control knobs.

The single control includes a dead-man function for low-risk trailer manoeuvring – with the parking brake of an uncoupled trailer only disengaged while the button is depressed.

If the red supply line coupling is connected, the parking brake can be disengaged by pressing the control knob. The same applies if the trailer is coupled and the air hoses are connected: the parking brake automatically releases when the control knob is pressed back into its original position. The vehicle is then ready to go.

Haldex says the new unit not only prevents a trailer from being parked with its brakes inadvertently disengaged, but also eliminates all risks associated with accidental releasing of the brakes – for example, due to children playing around a trailer parked on the roadside.
