Transdek Wedge double-deck semi-trailer granted new patent24 January 2017

Transdek UK, which specialises in double-deck semi-trailer design and manufacture, has been granted a patent for its award winning fixed double-deck trailer.

The patent recognises Transdek’s Wedge chassis/body design, which allows full-height loading on both decks, including over the neck – allowing a full deck of pallets or rollcages up to 1,883mm in height.

Transdek managing director Mark Adams says that, compared to powered double-deck designs, the Wedge trailer offers up to 25% additional load volume and up to seven-tonnes more payload.

That, he says, translates to a much more efficient transport solution, meaning reduced operating costs, fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

“At Transdek, we always try to push the boundaries of accepted industry standards, to see if we can work with our customers to offer real added value,” states Adams.

“In the case of the Wedge, we have adapted the conventional sloping chassis design to provide increased load clearance on each deck,” he continues.

“For a large number of operators, this subtle development makes the difference between carrying 52 pallets in the Wedge compared to 44 pallets in other double deck trailers.”

Early adopter Boots is now running some 60 Wedge trailers on its primary transport routes. Others include Thomas Ridley Foodservice, which is using Wedge double-decks for distributing chilled, ambient and frozen products.
