Transdev reduces fuel and accidents with GreenRoad 20 September 2013

PSV operator Transdev has chosen GreenRoad in a bid to cut both the risk of accidents and its fuel consumption.

Mike Mullins, technical director at Transdev, says the new driver behaviour system has already gone live at some depots but will be deployed throughout its 400-strong bus fleet by the end of the year.

Transdev depots already live with GreenRoad are reporting an average score that is now 'green', or low risk.

Mullins says Transdev's latest focus is now using GreenRoad's idling feature to reduce emissions and wasted fuel from unnecessary idling. Indeed, at its Harrogate depot it recently reduced idling by 50% in just one week.

"We originally chose GreenRoad because we could see how instant feedback would help drivers understand how they could drive more carefully," explains Mullins.

"After further research piloting GreenRoad we saw how we could also benefit from reduced operating expenses through better fuel economy," he continues.

"Another important element is the ability to track our vehicles and analyse driver behaviour: this gives us the facts to address any passenger queries and fraudulent insurance claims."

Transdev first trialled GreenRoad in 2009 at its Malton, Yorkshire, depot with 18 vehicles and 68 drivers.
