Transit Custom to the rescue for the AA13 August 2014

The AA has placed an order for 343 Ford Transit vans to join its fleet of patrol vehicles, after a comprehensive evaluation resulted in the Transit Custom's selection.

"We looked at all the usual factors – acquisition price, depreciation, servicing and maintenance costs, running costs including fuel economy – and the Transit Custom came out top," confirms Sarah Dopson, AA head of fleet.

The vehicles – a mix of 310 and 330 L1 models – will undergo conversion prior to delivery, including fitment of the AA's new contract recovery trailer to allow partial lift and recovery of broken-down vehicles. The vans will also be kitted out with a dual battery system and specialist racking.

Deliveries will be complete by November.

The order takes Ford's share of the AA's 2,100-strong patrol fleet to more than 50%.
