Transport industry votes for national FORS compliance standard 02 November 2015

Transport operators believe there should be a universal compliance standard for truck fleets in order to improve safety across the UK.

That’s the key finding of a study carried out by last week’s London Freight in the City event organisers.

The research suggests that 85% of decision makers involved in freight transport believe there should be a single UK-wide compliance standard across the logistics sector.

Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS) is being pitched as the national accreditation standard for commercial vehicle and PSV (public service vehicle) operations in the UK.

FORS managers say they want to promote the recognition of one overarching scheme that encompasses all aspects of safety, fuel efficiency, economical operations and vehicle emissions.

Over 90% of the Freight in the City study respondents stated they were familiar with TfL’s Safer Lorry Scheme, which came into force in the Capital on 1 September 2015.

Operators already FORS Bronze accredited automatically meet the requirements.

The FORS Community Partnership (FCP) is run by AECOM, CILT (Chartered Institute of Logistics Transport and Logistics) and Fleet Source.
