Transport operator reports top fuel performance from New Actros21 July 2014

Matthew Kibble Transport has taken delivery of its first Mercedes New Actros for evaluation against other marques – and is already reporting best fuel performance.

The New Actros 2545's fuel consumption is half a mile per gallon ahead of the competition, says the Lancaster-based haulier.

Supplied by dealer Ciceley Commercials, the truck is powered by a 449bhp straight-six engine and was specified with the GigaSpace cab, along with Daimler FleetBoard telematics.

Managing director Matthew Kibble says his firm decided to look at several vehicles, evaluating the full package on offer.

"There's more to the job than fuel efficiency alone, so we're also assessing performance, driver acceptance, overall running costs and the quality of the dealer back-up, and not just over the first few weeks."

And he adds: "As far as mpg returns are concerned, the New Actros is already well into the nines, which is half a mile better than our fleet average and significantly ahead of the other vehicles we're trialling."

The New Actros has been acquired with an Agility funding package from Mercedes-Benz Financial Services.

Agility is a hire purchase with guaranteed future value, but includes additional options at the end of the term, such as payment of a lump sum and use of the vehicle as part exchange.
