Tree Craft rates agility of Fuso Canter19 September 2017

Kent-based firm Tree Craft has taken delivery of its second 3.5-tonne Fuso Canter this year, citing the vehicle’s agility and durability as key factors in its decision.

Supplied by dealer Sparshatts with funding support from Mercedes-Benz Financial Services, the latest Canter is a 3C13 model, powered by a 3-litre 130bhp engine.

This vehicle is specified with a five-speed manual gearbox – the previous Canter, a 3C15 delivered in January, has the same engine but a Duonic automated dual-clutch transmission, and Tree Craft was keen to do a direct comparison.

Both vehicles feature the fuel-saving Idle Start/Stop function and an engine brake as standard, while variable nozzle turbine technology gives torque delivery of 370 Nm for the 3C15 and 300 Nm for the 3C13 – from low revs.

Both Canters have Comfort day cabs and feature high-sided tipping bodies by SB Components of Wisbech.

The latest addition is Tree Craft’s third Fuso Canter; it also operates a 7.5-tonne Mercedes-Benz Atego with Fassi crane-grab.

Tree Craft’s co-owner Russell Coombs (pictured) says: “The 3.5-tonne Canter carries a full load particularly well compared to other types of vehicle we’ve used in the past. For us, though, the Canter’s biggest advantage over the competition is its brilliant turning circle.

“We’re always towing chippers and plant trailers, and when you’re working in towns and cities manoeuvrability is crucial. We used to have real difficulties negotiating mini roundabouts, but not any longer. When it comes to trailer work, the Canter wins hands down.”
