Trials confirm fuel savings of MiX Telematics’ fleet system 22 October 2012

A long-term trial undertaken by German bus operator Sylter Verkehrsgesellschaft (SVG) has delivered very encouraging results demonstrating the effectiveness of Fleet Manager, MiX Telematics' fleet management solution.

"We deployed Fleet Manager in March 2011 and succeeded in improving our fuel efficiency by almost 10%, compared to the previous 12 months," states SVG manager Sven Seddig.

"This corresponds with a reduction of more than 150 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions," he adds.

During the trial, 18 buses from the SVG fleet were equipped with Fleet Manager by Kienzle Automotive, MiX Telematics' German partner.

Seddig explains that, in addition to the onboard computer, the system included Mix's RIBAS display, FM-Web and MiX Insight reports.

He also says that MiX Telematics and Kienzle Automotive put together a programme for driver development, designed to reduce fuel usage and exhaust emissions.

The results, he says, showed a significant improvement in overall performance, with savings coming particularly from a significant reduction in harsh braking and excessive idling – which also led to a cut in mechanical wear and tear.

Seddig says that an evaluation of the long-term trial revealed that, after deducting additional costs, including system costs and drivers' bonuses, SVG achieved savings of more than 2,200 eur per year, per vehicle.
