TRL launches route risk assessment tool05 December 2019

Transport Research Laboratory (TRL) has developed a tool to calculate the collision risk of specific routes, with the risk adjustable according to the use of various in-vehicle technologies.

Developed as part of the Driven autonomous vehicle project, TRL says the tool is ideal for local authorities, fleet managers, insurance companies and vehicle manufacturers.

Users will be able to map routes across the UK and see the collision risk for each route. In addition, the impact of various vehicle technologies can be measured: the tool shows collision risks per vehicle km for each technology in operation. Users can see how the risk changes as each technology is enabled, and compare multiple routes based on the risk assessment.
