Truck tracking system pays for itself in fuel savings 10 November 2010

Kings-Lynn-based temperature controlled distribution firm 3 Distribution, which specified Carrier Transicold's Foretrack fleet management system earlier this year, says it is paying for itself, in terms of fuel reductions.

The system, which was installed across 26 tractor units, operating with 26-pallet trailers, plus two 26 tonne rigids, all running Carrier refrigeration units, also provides satellite tracking, is also delivering vehicle emissions reductions on the way.

"It is refreshing to find a system that integrates into our existing technology and delivers on its promises," comments Patrick Finch, 3 Distribution director.

And he adds: "Not only do we now have real-time visibility of the entire temperature-controlled fleet, but we also have the additional bonus of monitoring the performance of all refrigeration units instantaneously."

Finch says the company calculated that even a one per cent reduction in fuel consumption across the fleet would pay for operating the system. "So far, we have achieved a three per cent saving, just as the team at Carrier suggested we would," he says.

"We can now analyse many aspects of the business with far more clarity and identify areas for cost savings and operational efficiencies," he explains. "We can ensure that our customers are kept informed on the status of their deliveries and answer queries with the immediacy required."
