Two Hi-Ways take to the highways for AFS Haulage22 May 2013

Eastleigh-based AFS. Haulage has replaced two of its older vehicles with a pair of Iveco Stralis Hi-Way long-haul tractor units.

AFS Haulage managing director Andy Seagrave says that the trucks were selected for his 38-strong fleet after reviewing the performance of its existing EcoStralis tractor unit, which has consistently returned 8.6 mpg, versus a fleet average of 8 mpg, despite operating with a double-deck trailer.

Both of the new tractors are powered by EEV-rated FPT Industrial 10.3-litre Cursor 10 engines, producing up to 460bhp between 1,550 and 2,100rpm, plus 2,100Nm of torque between 1,050 and 1,550rpm. These are driven matched to automated EuroTronic transmissions.

"We have high hopes for these two Stralis as they feature many of the same fuel-saving features as our existing EcoStralis, combined with a more aerodynamic cab and Iveco's Driving Style Evaluation tool," states Seagrave.

The evaluation tool is accessed via a dashboard-mounted colour touch screen, and allows drivers to see their performance in real time. Iveco claims fuel savings of between 5% and 12%.

Supplied by Hendy Van & Truck, the Stralis Hi-Way 6x2 twin-steer tractors (AS440 S46TX/P) will be used for a combination of local daytime work and night time trunking, and general haulage.
