Two Volvo crane-equipped rigids added to L Lynch fleet 29 March 2011

A pair of Volvo FM 8x2 rigids with cranes has been added to construction and plant hire specialist L Lynch's 450-strong fleet, as part of its expansion plan.

Already operating more than 50 Volvo trucks, L Lynch bought the vehicles in response to demand from its customers, who need increased crane capacity and cabin movements.

Operations director Merrill Lynch explains that, to these ends, its new FM11-370 chassis have been equipped with high capacity cranes – 45 tonnes and 65 tonnes – and Sterling beaver tail bodies for cabin movement work. Its largest cranes have an impressive 12.8t lifting capacity at 4.5m and extend to over 15m.

"As part of this expansion we also decided to go for more Volvos to avoid the reliability issues we've had with another marque," says Lynch of the trucks, which were supplied by Volvo Truck and Bus Centre London, Hayes.

"Every year, we spend heavily to renew the fleet that is more than three years old and we choose premium marques for our clients to get the best performance on site," adds Keith Talbot, the company's transport manager.
