Type Approval arrives for Stoneridge’s digital tacho 11 April 2011

Stoneridge Electronics has won the race for the first Type Approval certification for a next-generation digital tachograph.

The new unit, which makes its public debut at this week's CV Show, will be the only one with this classification at the event.

Operators wanting to benefit immediately from the savings possible from the new device can enjoy a £100 discount by ordering now – meaning a retro-fitted unit can be installed for under £800.

The SE5000 Exakt, is designed and manufactured at the company's European HQ in Sweden and its launch is expected to bring major efficiency gains to the road transport industry. It records driving time and non-driving time in segments of a minute versus whole minute sections currently.

Trials under 'real world' operating conditions in the Coca-Cola fleet in Sweden have shown that savings of 45 minutes driving time per day are possible in its typical multi-drop delivery work.

This could make the difference between a driver being able to legally complete his delivery route and having to call in a reserve vehicle or driver.

"We are delighted that we have secured the No 1 spot in the industry by getting our new generation tachograph to market first," says Amanda Robertson, Stoneridge's UK marketing manager.

"Operator trials, in the UK and elsewhere, are proving that there are real benefits to be gained from early fitment," she adds.
