UK fleets join in real-world trials of VW’s e-Crafter02 January 2018

Four UK fleets are among a group of international operators testing the first e-Crafter vans from Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles.

The vehicles were handed over to customers in Hanover on 20 December and will be trialled in everyday use until mid-2018.

The fleet operators involved in the trials include package delivery services, energy suppliers and retailers, whose vehicles cover between 70km and 100km per day, often on start-stop operations.

The e-Crafter has a 100kW output, a range of 160km and top speed limited to 90kph.

The battery is fitted into the van’s underbody so the full cargo volume of 10.7m3 can be used.

Like its diesel counterpart, the new e-Crafter comes equipped with driver assistance systems. Standard equipment will include Park Assist with side protection, a multifunctional camera and a rear view camera system. Other standard features include automatic climate control, heated seats, comfort seats, a navigation system, mobile phone preparation module and LED headlights.

The e-Crafter will be available in September 2018.
