Vehicle transporter keeps a low profile with Euro 6 Actros12 March 2014

Vehicle transportation business KHL Logistics has extended its 11-strong fleet with its first Euro 6 vehicle, a Mercedes-Benz New Actros 1843 LSnRA.

Supplied by dealer Euro Commercials (South Wales), Swansea-based KHL's tractor unit has a CompactSpace cab, designed for car transporters, concrete pumps and other applications requiring a low roof, as well as a low frame and lower profile tyres.

These measures give the cab a roof height of 2,649mm – 360mm lower than a standard New Actros ClassicSpace.

The Actros is powered by a 430bhp straight-six engine with PowerShift 3 automated transmission.

The fully air-suspended chassis was converted by Belle Trailers of Essex, which fitted the rear-mounting plate with fifth wheel assembly that allows the truck to work with a Lohr trailer to carry up to 11 cars.

KHL's founder Alf Leswisse says: "We'd seen and heard a lot of good things about New Actros fuel efficiency and we certainly liked the look of the new model.

"We move vehicles in and out of London, and the truck's Euro 6 engine will protect us against future operating restrictions based on emissions."

If the latest acquisition delivers as expected, he says, the company is likely to add two more to the fleet before long.
