Verd Energy fuels growth strategy with Harsh-equipped bulk tipper06 August 2018

Biomass wood pellet supplier Verd Energy has taken delivery of a new DAF 6x2 fitted with Harsh bulk tipping equipment to help drive its strategy to bring the benefits of biomass to a wider customer base.

The York-based operator’s new vehicle was chosen for manoeuvrability and productivity, enabling it to deliver to smaller commercial concerns and domestic customers.

Built by Muldoon Transport Systems of Dungannon, Northern Ireland, the 26-tonne gvw 6x2 DAF CF chassis has a smooth-sided alloy bulk body with lightweight Harsh FE combined ram and tank tipping gear.

The body also includes a Weights and Measures-approved Legal For Trade (LFT) onboard weighing system that allows customers to be billed from the recorded weight of delivered product. The rear of the body is also equipped to carry Muldoon’s demountable vacuum system, which can be used to clean out storage areas and silos.

Aside from its short wheelbase and rear-steer configuration, Verd specified the CF chassis with a 395bhp engine to enable a higher, rev-reducing rear axle ratio as well as reduced gearshifting – both of which improve fuel efficiency and driveability.

Verd Energy’s managing director Mark Duncan says: “Biomass is an ever-increasing part of the whole power generation industry, and we see a huge potential to broaden its appeal still further to a whole range of smaller-scale customers. These might include hotels, conference centres, factories on small industrial estates and larger domestic premises.

“But to win customers like these we have to have vehicles that can actually get to their premises without difficulty, yet still able to carry a worthwhile amount of biomass product.

“By choosing its specification very carefully, our new DAF achieves all these aims.”
