Volkswagen lifts the lid on fourth-generation Caddy06 February 2015

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has released details of the fourth-generation Caddy, which promises lower emissions, improved fuel performance and several new safety features.

With Euro 6, 2-litre, four-cylinder diesel engines, the Caddy range delivers 75bhp, 102bhp and 150bhp. Euro 5-engined versions will also be available.

Top performer for fuel efficiency, says the manufacturer, will be the Caddy Blue Motion panel van, consuming less than four litres per 100km.

Safety features include a 'Front Assist' monitoring system, which automatically applies the brakes should the driver fail to spot an obstacle when travelling at less than 19 mph. The passenger-carrying model also includes side and curtain airbags.

With more than 20% of accidents said to involve multiple collisions, Volkswagen is addressing this by including its Multi-collision Brake System as standard across the range. After any collision, the system automatically initiates braking if the driver is unable to take action.

Making its debut on the vehicle is an optional adaptive cruise control system, which uses radar sensors to monitor distance and relative speed to the vehicles ahead.

The fourth-generation Caddy will be launched in Germany at the end of June, with UK launch (and pricing) coming later in the year.
