Volkswagen pulls in 312-vehicle order from Network Rail13 March 2015

Network Rail has placed an order with Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles for more than 300 vehicles, including Amaroks and Transporters.

The vehicles will be used by Network Rail's engineering team to maintain the UK's rail infrastructure, including tracks, bridges and level crossings.

The 312-vehicle deal is for 124 Amaroks, 168 Transporters and 20 Transporter Kombis, with the Amarok's 4x4 capability said to be key to the decision.

"With over 20,000 miles of track and thousands of rail assets to maintain, the team requires the best products and support to deliver very complex jobs," says Steve Duffy, Network Rail's business support manager.

"The combination of Volkswagen's broad model range and its dedicated national fleet support team has helped us to deliver a fleet solution that meets the needs of our business, now and into the future."
