Volvo exhibits high-spec fire appliance at ESS02 September 2016

Volvo Trucks will be exhibiting a special 12-tonne gvw FL-240 fire appliance later this month at the Emergency Services Show (NEC, Birmingham; 21-22 September).

The 3.8m-wheelbase vehicle features the latest Cobra high-pressure, ‘cold cut’ fire extinguisher system, with 100% recyclable co-polymer, plastic bodywork by Strong’s Plastic Products.

The Cobra system uses a mixture of water and cutting agents, delivered at very high pressures via a nozzle system mounted on a lance, carried and directed by the firefighter. The technique can rapidly cut through all construction materials, including concrete, and the fire can be combatted from the building’s exterior via a hole so small that oxygen cannot reach the source of the fire.

Thanks to the Smart-Shaft driveline system installed on the FL-240, the Cobra C360 kit installation can be operated either simultaneously or independently in conjunction with the Godiva water pump fitted to the vehicle.

The Volvo FL on show also includes the Allison AL205 six-speed automatic transmission with PTO and a six-person crew cab. The drive axle is air suspended.
