Volvo FH tractors tick the boxes for Ward Recycling15 February 2016

Ward Recycling has taken delivery of two Volvo FH-500 6x2 tractors, declaring them the ideal vehicle for fuel efficiency and performance.

Supplied by dealer Hartshorne Motor Services, the Ilkeston-based operator’s latest additions to its 60-strong fleet are specified with Globetrotter cabs and D13K500 engines, producing 500bhp and driving through I-Shift automated transmissions.

Transport Manager Gary Bingham says fuel efficiency is becoming increasingly important in vehicle selection, not least because customers are requesting environmental information before placing business.

“We are getting very good figures from the two Volvo FH tractor units, yet at the same time our drivers have at their disposal all the power they need. This level of performance versus fuel efficiency offers us tangible benefits in terms of both environmental impact and operating costs.

“Additionally, our drivers love these trucks; they think they’re fantastic... and the reliability is second-to-none,” says Bingham. “I would say our decision to invest in these Volvo FH tractor units was absolutely right.”

The vehicles are based at the company’s Woodville premises and are expected to cover 80,000 miles each year.
