Volvo FMX the power choice for McAuliffe Civil Engineering11 November 2019

McAuliffe Civil Engineering has added five new Volvo FMX 8x4 rigids to its fleet, all with extra-high B Ride chassis and Volvo’s Powertronic fully automatic transmissions.

The Wolverhampton-based operator was the first tipper operator to take Volvo’s I-Shift automated gearbox more than 15 years ago, and says the Powertronic transmission is “unequalled” for off-road uphill terrain. A fully automatic power-shift gearbox with both a torque converter and oil cooler, it is factory-fitted with a power take-off (PTO), an integrated retarder and an emergency power steering pump.

“Powertronic is the only transmission system that will bring a fully loaded rigid truck up very steep hills in quarries without requiring tow assistance,” says Steve McAuliffe, McAuliffe’s managing director.

Supplied by dealer Hartshorne Motor Services, the Wolverhampton-based operator’s new additions are all fitted with Day cabs and have 414bhp D13K engines.

The trucks have Abba Predator tipper bodies and onboard weighing systems, along with Hyva hydraulics. They also have automatic tailgates and sheeting systems, so the driver can stay inside the cab at all times.
